Mt Adams

Today we joined Sarah, Lenny, Christine, and Rachel on a hike up Mt Adams. While waiting for Sarah and Lenny to arrive we also met Artex and Zach who were doing another hike.

This is the route we took today. As you can see we ascended on the left of King Ravine and came down on the right..

Directions to the trailhead: From Twin Mountain take Rte 115 East to Rte 2. Follow Rte 2 East, past the Water Wheel (good breakfast spot). Just past Lowes store/gas station, park at the Appilachia parking lot that is well marked on your right.

A 3-D view of our hike to the summit.

[22k JPEG Image]

Here we are at the start of the hike with Lenny sharing his coffee with Geri.

[22k JPEG Image]

We ascended via the Airline trail which is easy to follow and not too steep. We played leap frog with two other groups up until tree line where they warn you of the danger of hiking above tree line.

[22k JPEG Image]

As you approach treeline you get a great view of Mt Adams.

[22k JPEG Image]

Here are Sarah and Rachel enjoying the view into King Ravine.

[22k JPEG Image]

A view of the ridge up to the summit. Notice the kewl clouds.

A view into King Ravine.

[22k JPEG Image]

We had high clouds, a slight breeze, and great views all day.

[22k JPEG Image]

Rachel viewing Mt Adams with Lenny approaching from below - notice the moose hat he is wearing - another SherpaJohn wanna be :>

[22k JPEG Image]

Here are Rachel and Geri discussing worldly affairs. Rachel decided that she would run over to summit Mt Madison at this point and catch up to us on the summit of Adams. She is a very strong hiker.

[22k JPEG Image]

Here come Christine, Lenny, and Sarah making their way up the rocks on the approach to Mt Adams.

[22k JPEG Image]

This was our first hike with Christine who claimed she was shy - we managed to break her out of her shell :> .

[22k JPEG Image]

[22k JPEG Image]

At the summit Chirstine met MtnMAgic and SilentCal, two other members of VFTT.

[22k JPEG Image]

Geri with Mt Jefferson in the background. This was our first time on Mt Adams that we had views!

[22k JPEG Image]

Christine enjoying the views - this was her first time to Mt Adams.

[22k JPEG Image]

Sarah missing SherpaJohn, but enjoying the great weather we were blessed with.

[22k JPEG Image]

Lenny and his moose hat - Rachel chilling out behind him.

[22k JPEG Image]

With the great weather, the summit was crowded today.

[22k JPEG Image]

Rachel working on her tan. I think the only reason she hikes it to get closer to the sun!

[22k JPEG Image]

Geri and Lenny modifying the hike to take us down the West side of King Ravine.

[22k JPEG Image]

Guess the side trip to Madison took it's toll on Rachel - she grabbed a short nap.

[22k JPEG Image]

The view east to Mt Madison - notice Star Lake at the base.

[22k JPEG Image]

SilentCal snapped a picture of our group before we leave the summit.

[22k JPEG Image]

Just before we left we notice Dick Johnson - a gentleman we met a couple of times last year. It was great catching up with him and sharing stories.

[22k JPEG Image]

Geri and Dick trading stories with Wild Cat ski area in the background.

[22k JPEG Image]

We finally got to meet GhostDog! What a great pooch. That's MtnMagic in the background.

[22k JPEG Image]

This is a great hike if you want a lot of time above tree line.

[22k JPEG Image]

our next stop on the descent was Crag camp - an RMC cabin with a great view from the deck.

[22k JPEG Image]

While Geri was checking on the view, Sarah, Lenny, and Rachel chatted inside.

[22k JPEG Image]

Imagine waking up to this view every day! King Ravine with Mt Madison in the background

[22k JPEG Image]

And if the view of the mountains isn't enough to make you happy - hiking with these 4 babes certainly does the trick.

[22k JPEG Image]

As we make our way back to the cars we cross a stream.

[22k JPEG Image]

Geri making sure I got a pic of the stream, before we descend the final leg of the hike.

[22k JPEG Image]

Tom relaxing on the summit.

[22k JPEG Image]

Geri doing the same as we rest for the 9+ mile return trip.
