This is the route we took today. We did the loop counter clockwise.

Directions to the trailhead: From the intersection of the Kanc with Route 16 in Conway, head south 6.1 miles where you will see a trailhead sign for the Piper trail on the West side of the road. Follow the dirt road for .2 miles and park in the parking lot.

After the long day on the Baldfaces yesterday, not enough water, and not enough food - dinner at 10 was nachos, this was our first DNF (Did Not Finish) :<

We started up the Piper Trail under clear sunny skies with the temp rising. 1.2 miles into the hike we turned onto the Nickerson Ledge trail which connects to the Carter Ledge trail. This took us to the Middle Sister trail.

Soon we were above treeline with better views and now shade. This is the view from Nickerson Ledge The temp was rising fast with little breeze.

At this point the heat and dehydration from the previous day was taking it's toll. I was moving very slow by the time we reached the first Sister summit. Soon after Geri decided for me that we would head down at the intersection of the Piper trail. Smart decission - when we reached the car it was 94 in the shade! We will be back to summit this peak in the Fall!
