Decided to ascend to the summit of Mt Hale via the abandoned Fire Wardens trail today as we were looking for something fairly easy after a traverse of the Franconia Ridge yesterday.
We had no problem finding the start of the trail or following it. It is a gradual trail with 6 switch backs as it climbs through a large birch glade about halfway. Nearer the top the trail traverses the side of another summit, dropping into a small col before the final climb to the summit. We did come across a few blow downs, but they are easy to bypass. Around the blow down area we came to some signs of the previous cabin/tower - some wires, insuslators, and some discarded barrels. |
