Mt Washington

Our route up Mt Washington started at the Glen Boulder trail, to the Davis Path, to Mt Clay, ending at the Cog railroad via the Jewel trail.

This is the profile of the hike from our GPS.

Unfortuantly we realized too late that we had forgotten to take our camera :< Of course that meant we would hike under a bright blue cloudless sky all day.

We left a car at the Cog Railroad and drove over to Pinkham Notch. On the way we came across an accident where a car had just collided with a moose. The moose lay dead at the side of the road - the car had sustained heavy dammage to the roof right at the windsheild, but luckily the windsheild did not cave in and all 4 people in the car escaped with minor injuries. They were very lucky that there was not trafic coming towards them. This was a big reminder that keep our eyes open for deer and moose whenever we are in the mountains.

The Glen Boulder trail was in great shape and we quickly found ourselves above treeline approaching the Davis Path. Too our delight there were only a few puffy white clouds in the otherwise blue sky. Next stop was a side trip to bag the Boot Spur peak before continueing on to Washington's summit.

After enjoying a hot bowl of chilli we headed over to Mt Clay as our friend Julie needed that peak for the Y-Alpine list. We crossed the railroad tracks just before a train arrived and barely stayed out of the smoke path from the coal fired engine. As we continued on we met up with a male hiker with skis strapped to his pack - guess he was looking for one last run :>

After reaching the summit of Mt Clay we bushwacked straight down to the Jewel trail saving a good 20 minutes. From here we had an uneventfull decent to the car.

Just another great hike on the "rock pile" under perfect weather conditons.
